I reblogged this before but I’m reblogging it again because I noticed that most of the people who actually left notes (as opposed to just liked or reblogged) were just making various not-at-all-clever quips about moving over to the left and liking it on the left, and enjoying being basic as hell or wtfever, because I guess they wanted any opportunity to continue discussing how OMG SHE’S SO DESPERATE the way she likes a boy and thinks he’s hot and doesn’t hide either of these facts and OMG DOESN’T SHE HAVE ANY SELF-RESPECT with all of her shameless being pleased when the boy she likes does nice things for her because, you know, how very dare she doesn’t she know expressing sexuality is only for men where is she from MARS?
So, uh, I just felt the need to actually articulate: #1 M’gann is a flawless beam of laughter and sunlight riding a rainbow covered in puppies through the sky, and #2 ~*~fuck all y’all~*~
Though, I guess I’m a little bit impressed since unlike YJ fandom, when I’m going out of my way to be an asshole for no good reason, I’m not actually proud of it.
Reblogging again for this ridiculous comment: I know many DC fans that hate YJ’s version of M’gann and none of them EVER said anything about M’gann not having self-respect.
I would appreciate if you could respect the fact that not everybody is obligated to have the same opinion as you - M’gann is a Mary Sue and I dislike her but I don’t bash her fans. I would also like to ask you to stop jumping to conclusions, because your words offend not only me, but many of the other female DC fans that always fight for girls to be able to express their sexuality in any way they want.
Emphasis mine and I’m going to tackle both of these points because it’s early enough in the day that I have a modicum of patience left still, even for obvious bullshit.
First, it only takes me about five seconds of looking at just about any YJ-related tag on Tumblr or at episode reaction threads on the Tumblr-frequented YJ forum to find people decrying how desperate and lacking in self-respect M’gann comes off in her interactions with Superboy. So… no.
Second, Mary Sue is nothing but a meaningless and extraordinarily genderized insult that people whip out when they want to dismiss a female character who has the temerity to, well, exist. But I’m going to humor you for a second and pretend you’re using the term in good faith.
How exactly is M’gann a Mary Sue? What makes her a Mary Sue and not any of the other characters? What does that even mean in this context? The original definition of Mary Sue was an obvious authorial self-insert. Whose self-insert is M’gann, exactly?
As the meaning of the term changed because people decided they wanted to attack and dismiss not just fan-created women but ones in the source as well, it was determined that a canon Mary Sue was a character who was overly idealized or perfect and whom the narrative held as such. M’gann has obvious and clear flaws that have been explored in the show; she makes mistakes and they are acknowledged. So, again I ask, how is she a Mary Sue?
Is it because she’s cheerful? Is it because she’s perky? Is it because she likes to bake? Is it because she has a catchphrase and only Robin is allowed to have verbal tics?
Or — spoiler alert, this is where I stop humoring you — is it just because she’s getting her girl cooties on Superboy?
LET’S GO TO THE TAPE:
Oh, excuse me, I’m so embarrassed about these conclusions I jumped to! Clearly, yours and others hatred of M’gann is for the totally fair and valid reason that “M’gann is making Superboy act completely OOC” because obviously if Superboy WAS acting in a way that was out of character for him (which lol no but that’s another argument) clearly it would be… M’gann’s fault and not the writers. Much like, were it so, if “they [didn’t] fit, their characters [were] totally different and the whole thing [was] WAY too rushed” that would also be M’gann’s fault, right?
Obviously I completely misjudged this entire situation thinking that yours and others’ hatred of M’gann was based in a shit ton of internalized sexism. Because certainly there is no greater support for women being able to freely express their sexuality and women, in general, than your perfect fantasy episode being one in which “[Superboy] fails [to save M’gann] and the bitch dies, the end” all because you don’t like M’gann’s relationship with Superboy.
I don’t think that everyone has to love M’gann, whatever. I don’t give a shit whether you love her and I didn’t say otherwise. The point I was making and will continue to make and stand by is that I have yet to see any active dislike of M’gann, any hatred of her, in YJ fandom that is not bullshit thinly-veiled (or not veiled at all) misogyny because she has done absolutely nothing to warrant the negative response that she receives relative to the other characters. Except, apparently, get it with Superboy.
And, no, I won’t respect that garbage or the people who spew it. So, I repeat: ~*~fuck all y’all~*~
Well, clearly there’s nothing here for *me* to add.
Oooohhh, Rawles, ooohhh.

Oooohhh, Rawles, ooohhh.
I think she’s absolutely adorable!
Adorable
All of this. The only reason I dislike her is her voice/catchphrase. e.e
Reblogging for commentary. And to say that it seems no matter the fandom it never changes. I will never escape this BS...
