Ryukishi briefly references the manga, Glass Mask (started 1976, still ongoing), in Higanbana no Saku Yoru Ni. Here’s a brief snippet from the manga series.
In short, Maya takes acting and stage plays very seriously. There was some good buildup to this part, so if you just want to read the manga from the beginning, check it out. It’s pretty good.

Leaving it cut because it’s quite long. A good introduction to the manga though it doesn’t mention the fact that most of the manga is dedicated to a rvialry between two girls and their mentor is it is all ladies, all the time. Ayumi and Maya canonically mean more to each other than their boyfriends as well.
Yeah, I kinda glossed over the intense rivalry the two have. In all honesty, I doubt either of the two girls would have gotten where they are now without being there to push each other. If anything, you can almost compare it to the usual rivalries you see in typical shounen manga series, especially sports or card game based series. I’d love to have such a rival myself.
It wasn’t meant as a criticism; I’m just trying to get my friends to read it! I agree a lot of their rivalry of shounen-esque, especially the dichotomy between the natural prodigy and the cool elite. It’s one of the most enjoyable things about Glass Mask, them pushing to each other to do better.
